At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Industrial Development Fund and PROMOMED signed an agreement on financing a new pharmaceutical production facility in the Republic of Mordovia. The project will make it possible to launch the production of innovative drugs for the treatment of rare diseases.

Russia will expand the production of drugs for the treatment of rare diseases. We are talking about medicines that are produced in small batches, but are of critical importance for patients with severe diagnoses, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy, short bowel syndrome and a number of other severe pathologies. The new production complex will be created by PROMOMED with the support of the Industrial Development Fund.

"To date, we have already financed 20 projects in Mordovia worth 10 billion rubles, and the bulk of the funds have gone to industries such as mechanical engineering and medical biopharm," said Roman Petrutsa, Director of the Industrial Development Fund.

The total investment in the project will amount to 1 billion 400 million rubles, of which 940 million will be provided by the Industrial Development Fund in the form of a concessional loan.

"This is a unique complex that works with supernova drugs, where the smallest dosages are needed. And such a complex that we have 14 types of medicines, 3 types of substances, I'm afraid to say that it will be the only one in our country, but it will definitely be very rare and unique."

Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC PROMOMED

The peculiarity of such drugs is their small production volumes and high requirements for the accuracy of technological processes. Therefore, their production on standard industrial lines is often difficult or economically inefficient. The new complex in Mordovia will allow organizing a full production cycle, from the production of pharmaceutical substances to the finished dosage form. By 2031, the company will be able to produce up to 47,000 packages of drugs annually.

"Any new production in which we confidently have our medicines in various forms is to ensure our sovereignty. The republic's leadership is always working to ensure that businesses receive understandable money from understandable operators. The FRP are supporters of the regions," said Artyom Zdunov, head of the Republic of Mordovia.

According to the project participants, the launch of the new production facility will increase the availability of innovative therapy for Russian patients, shorten the delivery time of drugs to medical institutions and strengthen the country's drug safety.
