The production is licensed and certified according to the GMP standard.

The company produces medicines in ten dosage forms: tablets, capsules, injection powders, three types of solutions, lyophilizates, sachets, ointments, gels. The company carries out biotechnological production, chemical and microbiological synthesis of APIS.

Five workshops of the enterprise are equipped with high-tech equipment, where the largest world-class research center (R&D hub) operates.

As one of the most modern biotechnological pharmaceutical plants in Russia, Biochemik continuously develops and manufactures high-quality medicines that ensure the drug independence of our patients.

to the molecule

When searching for a target and a promising molecule that will bring the greatest benefit to patients and will be in demand for the treatment of the most serious diseases, our specialists use their own knowledge and modern scientific data. Employees update their skills and competencies on a daily basis, exchange professional experience, interact with leading research centers and medical institutions, and organize expert councils.

The development of the drug is carried out in our own R&D center. It begins with choosing the optimal target to be affected by the future molecule.

The use of advanced technologies, including machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), increases the efficiency of development, reducing its cost and time to market the drug. The drugs go through the entire production cycle in the high-tech workshops of the Biochemist plant, which celebrates its 65th anniversary this year. The plant is located on an area of 22 hectares. Full—cycle production is organized in accordance with the GMP standard - this has become a reality thanks to many years of experience, effective management, modernization and implementation of advanced modern engineering solutions by PROMOMED.

The synthesis of active pharmaceutical substances is carried out at a modern API manufacturing plant, launched in 2023.

Seven production lines have been set up here; their total capacity for the production of substances reaches 340 tons per year.

Ready-made dosage forms are manufactured in five workshops. These include Russia's only automated production of tablets and capsules without human intervention and a line for the production of finished medicines in ampoules. The production volume is up to 2 billion tablets and more than 170 million ampoules per year.

History

1950

The beginning of the story

On March 5, 1952, the USSR Council of Ministers approved a project to create an antibiotic manufacturing plant in Saransk.

At a time when the country was recovering from the war and in dire need of medical supplies, this decision became not just important, but vital.

The plant's production facilities were initially focused on the development and production of antibiotics, which was the first step towards improving the country's healthcare system. In 1958, the central laboratory and auxiliary workshops were put into operation. On November 5, 1959, the first stage of penicillin production was launched – this day is considered the birthday of the Biochemist.

1960

In the 1960s, the factory started industrial production of streptomycin, the first antibiotic used in the fight against tuberculosis. This drug, along with penicillin, has become one of the most significant in the 20th century.

At that time, the penicillin produced at our factory began to be exported to Europe and Asia. In addition, the company has organized mass production of blood substitutes such as polyglucine, ferroglucine and hemodesis. These drugs have become indispensable in the treatment of patients suffering from bleeding, solving a number of critically important tasks in medicine.

1970

In the 1970s, Biochemik's specialists mastered the mass production of dry polyglucine, cerigel and cyclophosphamide, which made it possible to provide hospitals with vital drugs, including for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

For the first time in the Soviet Union, an enzyme technology for the production of 6-aminopenicillanic acid, a key component for the creation of synthetic antibiotics, was introduced at our plant. Industrial production of rheopolyglucine, Trisol solution, water for injection, isotonic sodium chloride solution, blood preservatives, novocaine and citroglucophosphate has also begun.

1980

In the 1980s, the plant launched the production of the antibiotic ampicillin, which gave a serious impetus to the development of production. The portfolio of developments has increased, and we have been able to provide patients with antibacterial drugs for the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract.

1990

In the 1990s, the Executive Committee of the Saransk City Council of People's Deputies registered the Saransk Biochemist Medical Products Plant as an open joint-stock company. During this period, the plant organized the production of drugs in various dosage forms: sites for the production of tablets and injectable solutions in ampoules were created, and the first production line of ointments was launched.

The plant's specialists have mastered the production of amoxicillin, as well as six new names of ointments and saline solutions. Later, Biochemist began production of oxacillin, an antibacterial agent from the group of semi-synthetic penicillins used for pneumonia, abscess, cholecystitis, osteomyelitis and postoperative wound infections.

2000

In the early 2000s, the plant began to produce products in new dosage forms, such as hard gelatin capsules and suppositories. The technique of obtaining picamilon's own substance, a nootropic that dilates the blood vessels of the brain, was also mastered.

Later, Biochemist received a certificate confirming that the quality management system complies with GOST R ISO 9001 and ISO 9001 standards. This means that all conditions have been created for the production of high-quality products, and the processes within the company are conducted clearly and according to the rules. In 2008, the company launched an ampoule filling line with a capacity of 24,000 ampoules per hour. In the following years, the company significantly expanded the list of developments, confirming its position in the market.

2010

The production of Indapamide and Perindopril tablets, Troxerutin gel, Chlorhexidine suppositories and amputated articaine began on an industrial scale.

2015 became a landmark year in the history of the plant: Biochemist joined Promomed Group. This event opened up new prospects for the company, allowing it to use all the accumulated experience to create modern high-tech medicines. In the same year, the plant launched a new site for the production of tablets and capsules with a total area of more than 1,700 square meters.

In 2016, Russia's first Scientific and Production Center "Antibiotics" was established. The center's specialists have developed a substance for the domestic antibiotic Vancomycin, which is known as the "medicine of last resort."

2020-21

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Biochemistry launched the production of the first domestic drug for the treatment of coronavirus infection, and soon the company's anti-COVID portfolio was replenished with its own innovations, which passed all preclinical and clinical studies and proved their effectiveness, saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients.

The plant was able to reorient production to meet the primary needs of domestic healthcare in the shortest possible time.

The company has opened a site for the production of ready-made medicines in ampoules, capable of producing more than 173 million ampoules per year.

2022

A high-tech tablet production facility with a capacity of more than 1 billion tablets per year has been opened. The new tablet production is one of the most modern in Europe:Vacuum transfer technologies are used here instead of human labor. The line, built using unique technologies, produces antiviral, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective drugs.

The company began to create vital drugs for the treatment of HIV infection and cancer, which became a significant step in supporting patients in need of effective therapy.

2023

With the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a factory for the production of active pharmaceutical substances (API) was opened, capable of producing 340 tons of API per year and has become one of the largest enterprises in the country.

Promomed has made a significant breakthrough by releasing the first domestic drug of the glucagon-like peptide—1 receptor agonist group, Enligria, designed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. The drug has become an important part of the company's strategy to ensure national drug safety. Enligria is highly effective due to its active ingredient, liraglutide, which helps control blood sugar levels and reduces hunger.

The company also released the drug "Quincenta" based on semaglutide, the latest "gold standard" for the treatment of diabetes, including in patients with obesity and overweight or cardiovascular diseases, which has already received worldwide recognition.

2024

In 2024, the company continued to expand its portfolio of vital medicines. In June, the first batch of the active pharmaceutical substance Nilotinib, a drug used to treat blood cancer, was produced. The modified substance was developed in the laboratory of the R&D Center and successfully put into production, which allowed us to offer patients a high-quality and affordable remedy that meets strict standards.

In October, Promomed launched a new drug for the treatment of overweight and obesity, Velgia, based on semaglutide, which is produced in a full cycle on the territory of the Russian Federation. It continues the company's line of products to combat metabolic diseases, helps to significantly reduce weight and correct metabolic disorders, which helps reduce the risks of cardiovascular and oncological diseases. The development will make it possible to provide affordable and effective therapy to millions of people in Russia.

In November 2024, the Biochemist plant celebrated its 65th anniversary.

In 2024, the Biochemist plant installed production equipment to increase the production of RNA substances. Thanks to new equipment and improved technology, the biotechnological production of APIS based on RNA technology has increased by 2 times.

In 2024, the Biochemist plant successfully passed the inspection of Russian and foreign regulators: it confirmed compliance with the requirements of good manufacturing practice of the EAEU GMP, expanded the EAEU license with a permit for new types of activities.

In 2024, the Biochemist plant received a license and a GMP certificate from the EAEU for the production of veterinary drugs.

2025

New production facilities were launched in 2025.:

- A site for the production of pre-filled syringes, with a capacity of 12,000 syringes per hour.

- A site for the production of lyophilizates and sterile solutions

In 2025, innovative medicines became available to our patients: Tirzetta® Apalutamide-Promomed, Velgia® Ivf Amberwin® Pulmo, ReitBufen, Migrenium Neo.

PROMOMED's Tirzetta® (Tirzepatide) is the first Russian competitor to the well-known and not available in Russia drug Mounjaro.
