June 30 – RIA Novosti.
The results of the Areplivir drug trials conducted at Ogarev Mordovian State University are encouraging, the drug helps to improve the condition of COVID-19 patients and the death of the virus, Larisa Balykova, head of the university's research center, told RIA Novosti.
Trials of the coronavirus drug "Areplivir" have been taking place at the Ogarev Moscow State University since the beginning of June and have already been almost completed.
According to Professor Balykova, based on preliminary data from five research centers (210 patients, 10 or more days of treatment), Areplevir is approved for the treatment of patients with moderate to severe coronavirus infection.
"It was found that the drug contributes to a faster reduction of clinical symptoms: on average, on the 3rd-4th day, there was a normalization of temperature, a decrease in the severity of intoxication and respiratory disorders. All patients who received Areplivir had virus elimination (death) by the tenth day in our center, while only 70% of the control group had it," said the head of the Mordovian University Research Center.
She said that against the background of the new antiviral drug, according to lung CT, the regression of pulmonary manifestations of coronavirus infection occurred faster, while no significant negative side effects were noted. Balykova stressed that the monitoring of patients continues.
Earlier it became known that Areplivir, a drug for the treatment of a new coronavirus infection based on favipiravir from Promomed pharmaceutical company, was approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The drug will be available in tablet form and used only in a hospital setting. As previously reported, Promomed specialists have developed their own full-cycle production technology at the Biochemik Saransk plant.
