Promomed Group of Companies has received patents providing legal protection for the synthesis of nirmatrelvir, the active ingredient of its own innovative drug Skyvir®.

Skyvira®, one of the drugs in the Promomed Group's anti-covid portfolio, belongs to a new generation of medicines and is a combination of two active ingredients: nirmatrelvir and ritonavir. Nirmatrelvir, in turn, is an inhibitor of viral protease 1, an enzyme that is necessary for the virus at the stage of formation of whole particles for its reproduction. Due to the mechanism of action and its enhancement due to the combination with ritonavir, the drug completely blocks the process of virus reproduction inside the cell, which allows to prevent the complicated course of the disease and hospitalization, accelerate recovery and minimize the severity of the post-covid syndrome.

"As you know, Russian pharmaceutical companies are currently doing a lot of work to localize the production of substances in the Russian Federation and develop their own reproducible methods for synthesizing these substances. It is very important for us to ensure effective comprehensive protection of our original products on the market at all stages of production, including at the stage of synthesis of the substance, if it is unique, original and meets the criteria of patentability. The positive decisions we have received from Rospatent to grant five patents for different methods and stages of nirmatrelvir synthesis are the result of extensive and painstaking teamwork by our own RnD center and Promomed's internal patent attorneys. We can be sure that the capacity of the production site will allow us to carry out the developed and patented synthesis of the active pharmaceutical substance at the Biochemist plant (part of the group of companies). We are even more pleased that the number of patent work has increased significantly over the past two years. This indicates a steady growth of innovation in the domestic pharmaceutical industry," commented Maria Porokhnya, Director of Intellectual Property at Promomed Group.

As part of the implementation of the strategy aimed at ensuring the country's drug safety and creating a base for the development of innovative domestic molecules, Promomed Group of companies has launched one of Russia's largest manufacturers of active pharmaceutical substances (JSC Biochemik).2, and is also actively working to develop unique production technologies and ways to use its own products. Obtaining protection documents for its own inventions once again confirms that Promomed is not only actively developing in the current conditions as a pharmaceutical company, but also shows good prospects for the industry as a whole.

Promomed Group has already filed international applications for the developed methods of obtaining nirmatrelvir, which in the future, with a positive result of the examination of patent offices in other countries, will allow us to confirm exclusive rights outside the Russian Federation.
