Help

Package leaflet

The drug Amklav® SAR® contains two active ingredients – amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic of the penicillin group: it kills bacteria that cause a number of infections. Some bacteria are able to produce enzymes called beta-lactamases that break down amoxicillin. Clavulanic acid blocks the action of such enzymes (beta-lactamase inhibitor) and thus prevents the destruction of amoxicillin.

The drug Amklav® SAR® is used in adults and children over 1 year of age or with a body weight of more than 10 kg to treat the following infections:

  • ear, throat, and nose infections;
  • respiratory infections (bronchi and lungs);
  • urinary tract infections (kidneys and bladder);
  • infections of the female genital organs;
  • skin and soft tissue infections;
  • infections of bones and joints;
  • infections of the oral cavity;
  • infections of the abdominal organs, including after childbirth and abortion;
  • blood infections (sepsis) as part of step-by-step therapy.

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or seizures.
In case of an overdose, you may be prescribed additional medications and procedures to relieve the condition.

Like all medications, the drug Amklav® SAR® may cause undesirable reactions, but they do not occur in everyone.
Very common (may occur in more than 1 person out of 10):

  • diarrhea (in adults).
Common (may occur in no more than 1 person out of 10):
  • thrush (candidiasis is a fungal infection of the vagina, mouth, or skin folds);
  • diarrhea (in children);
  • nausea;
  • vomiting.
Infrequently (may occur in no more than 1 person out of 100):
  • dizziness;
  • headache;
  • digestive disorders;
  • changes in blood tests used to assess liver function (increased activity of liver enzymes aspartate aminotransferase (ACT), alanine aminotransferase (ALT));
  • rash, itching;
  • allergic skin reaction with redness (urticaria).

Do not take Amklav®. SAR®:

  • If you are allergic to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, penicillins, or any other components of the drug listed in section 6 of the leaflet.;
  • if you have had a severe allergic reaction to other beta-lactam antibiotics (for example, cephalosporins, carbapenems, monobactams). Allergy symptoms may include, for example, skin rash, swelling of the face or neck.;
  • if you have ever had liver problems or jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes) during treatment with this combination of antibiotics.

Tell your doctor that you are taking, have recently taken, or may start taking any other medications.
Some medications may interact with Amklav®. SAR®. These include:

  • medications for the treatment of gout (probenecid, allopurinol). Gout is a disease in which uric acid accumulates in the body, in the joints and kidneys. With the combined use of the drug Amklav® SAR® with allopurinol may cause skin rash;
  • Methotrexate (a drug for cancer and rheumatoid arthritis). Concomitant use may lead to increased adverse reactions of methotrexate;
  • oral contraceptives (drugs to prevent pregnancy taken by ingestion). The drug Amklav® SAR® reduces the effectiveness of oral contraceptives;
  • drugs that prevent blood clotting (oral anticoagulants, for example, acenocoumarol or warfarin). You need to take blood clotting tests more often (prothrombin time, international normalized ratio (INR));
  • mycophenolate mofetil (a drug for the prevention of organ rejection after transplantation). Combined use with Amklav® SAR® may reduce the effectiveness of mycophenolate mofetil.
