Help

Package leaflet

Thioctic acid (alpha-lipoic acid) is an endogenous antioxidant of direct (binds free radicals) and indirect (restores intracellular glutathione levels, increases superoxide dismutase activity) action. As a coenzyme of mitochondrial enzyme complexes, it participates in the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvic acid and alpha-keto acids. It helps to reduce the concentration of glucose in blood plasma and increase the concentration of glycogen in the liver, also reduces insulin resistance, participates in the regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, stimulates cholesterol metabolism, improves liver function.

  • diabetic polyneuropathy;
  • alcoholic polyneuropathy.

Headache, nausea, vomiting.
In case of acute overdose, taking thioctic acid in doses of 10-40 g, serious signs of intoxication may occur (generalized seizures; pronounced acid–base balance disorders leading to lactic acidosis; hypoglycemic coma; severe blood clotting disorders, sometimes fatal). If a significant overdose of the drug is suspected (doses equivalent to more than 10 tablets for an adult or more than 50 mg / kg of body weight for a child), immediate hospitalization is required.

Disorders of the immune system
Very rare: allergic reactions – skin rash, itching, urticaria; systemic allergic reactions (up to the development of anaphylactic shock).
Frequency unknown: autoimmune insulin syndrome (AIS) in patients with diabetes mellitus, which is characterized by frequent hypoglycemia in the presence of autoantibodies to insulin.
Metabolic and nutritional disorders
Very rarely: the development of hypoglycemia (due to improved glucose utilization), symptoms of which include dizziness, confusion, increased sweating, headache, visual disturbances.
Disorders of the nervous system
Often: dizziness.
Very rare: changes in taste sensations.
Disorders of the gastrointestinal tract:
Often: nausea.
Rarely: heartburn.
Very rare: vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders
The frequency is unknown: eczema.

  • hypersensitivity to thioctic acid or any other component of the drug;
  • lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption;
  • pregnancy, breastfeeding;
  • children under 18 years of age (efficacy and safety of use have not been established).

With simultaneous administration of thioctic acid and cisplatin, there is a decrease in the effectiveness of cisplatin.
Thioctic acid binds metals, so it should not be prescribed simultaneously with drugs containing metals (for example, iron, magnesium, calcium preparations), as well as with dairy products (due to their calcium content), the interval between taking such drugs and thioctic acid should be at least 2 hours.
Enhances the effect of insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents.
Enhances the anti-inflammatory effect of glucocorticosteroids.
Ethanol and its metabolites weaken the therapeutic effect of thioctic acid.
