Amberwin® Pulmo: the first domestic innovative drug of the class of short peptides for the treatment of infectious diseases of the respiratory tract

PROMOMED has announced the launch of the first-in-class innovative drug Amberwin^® Pulmo with a unique mechanism of action and high efficacy in improving lung health in a wide range of diseases.

The drug Amberwin^® Pulmo is a bioregulator from the class of short peptides, created on the company's own technological platform. The active ingredient of the drug is a synthetic peptide of six amino acids combined with a fragment of succinic acid.

This composition allows the drug to exhibit pronounced anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, ensure tissue repair, and help prevent acute lung damage and the development of bacterial complications.

A wide range of clinical studies in patients with various types of pneumonia, including COVID-19, have proven the high efficacy of Amberwin^® Pulmo in reducing the severity of inflammatory changes and improving lung function, improving the clinical status and alleviating the condition of patients, reducing the risk of developing a cytokine storm, accelerating recovery and discharge from the hospital.

According to the research results, the drug was included in the methodological recommendations of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of new coronavirus infection and in the list of VED.

The drug Amberwin^® Pulmo is produced in a full cycle at the biopharmaceutical plant of JSC Biochemist. The innovation was fully developed by a domestic company, and its production is localized from the production of the active substance to the release of the finished dosage form.  The introduction of the drug into clinical practice will make it possible at any time to cover all the existing needs of the healthcare system in the complex therapy of infectious diseases and the prevention of the development of life-threatening conditions.

Sergey Avdeev, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, chief freelance specialist in pulmonology at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, noted that the similarity of the structure of the new drug with endogenous regulators of inflammatory reactions provides a pronounced effect in reducing the effects of systemic hyperimmune reaction (cytokine storm), the main cause of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), including in pneumonia. According to him, the conducted clinical trial showed an improvement in the condition and function of the lungs and, importantly, a decrease in the need for antibiotics.

Khadizhat Omarova, PhD, Head of the Clinical Research Department of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, noted that, according to WHO estimates, respiratory tract infections are a significant public health problem and the urgency of finding new pharmacological agents with anti-inflammatory activity remains. According to her, the organoprotective effect of Amberwin^® Pulmo revealed in clinical studies and the ability to correct violations of antiviral immunity allow it to be considered as a promising tool in the treatment of respiratory infections of various nature and post-infectious conditions.

The drug can be used as part of the complex therapy of cardiovascular diseases and pneumonia, including community-acquired forms, due to its vasoprotective, cardio- and pulmonoprotective effects.
