Artificial intelligence will accelerate the development of new drugs
June 18, 2025, St. Petersburg
Artificial intelligence will be used in Russia to develop and manufacture new medicines. This was agreed by the BEAC, the AI Institute and the biopharmaceutical company PROMOMED. On XXVIII At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the companies signed a cooperation agreement.
PROMOMED is already on the path of digital transformation, and now, together with the largest players in the field of digital technologies, it is developing and implementing AI solutions at all stages of the pharmaceutical product lifecycle. This will speed up the development and launch of medicines on the market. Artificial intelligence will ensure the processing of large amounts of data, optimize the search for targeted solutions for new drugs, and develop an individual approach to patient treatment (personalized medicine). In addition, the partners will develop a special platform for an integrated approach to the application of AI solutions in pharmaceutical companies: bioinformatic analysis, biomedical data analysis, market data analysis and other decision support tools will be available in a single software package.
Cooperation will allow combining the expertise of all project participants. As part of the partnership, participants will actively contribute knowledge to the overall result: technological solutions, functional problem setting, computing capabilities, etc.
The parties expressed confidence that such agreements are consistent with the strategy for the development of the high-tech sector of the Russian economy.
Sergey Zhdanov, Director of Sberbank's Health Industry Center:
"This long-term partnership opens a new page in the production of medicines. First, it will accelerate the creation of drugs that, accordingly, will reach patients faster. Secondly, the analysis of big data will help doctors to choose the therapy more precisely. I am convinced that the in—depth expertise of Sber, AIRI and PROMOMED, common goals and the latest technologies are the key to success in such an important and responsible industry as pharmaceuticals, which directly affects the quality of life."
Peter Bely, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC PROMOMED:
"Digital solutions are the main driver of Russia's technological sovereignty, including in the pharmaceutical sector. Combining the efforts of pharmaceutical manufacturers and the largest companies in the field of digital technologies will provide a real research and technological breakthrough, will contribute to the emergence of innovative medicines and therapies for the most complex chronic diseases."
Ivan Oseledets, CEO of the AI Institute:
"This agreement clearly focuses our joint efforts on three key areas: the introduction of AI at all stages of drug development, the digitalization of pharmaceutical production and the development of personalized medicine through AI analytics. We see this as a real opportunity to increase the efficiency and speed of creating new therapeutic solutions."
