Vladimir Volkov visited one of the largest industrial enterprises in the region, the Biochemist plant. The acting Head of the Republic inspected the construction site where a new workshop is being built - in fact, a mini-factory with an area of 16 thousand square meters for the production of liquid sterile medicines in the form of ampoules, small and large-dose vials and pre-filled syringes. There will be walls here by the end of the year, and new equipment is being purchased.

Next, the Head of the Republic inspected the laboratory for the development of medicines. This is a kind of "brain" of the enterprise, a strategic object on which the activity of all other production units depends. Vladimir Volkov also visited the laboratory for the development of new active substances and antibiotics of a new generation. Last year, Russian Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova visited the plant. During the visit, a trilateral cooperation agreement was signed between the Government of Mordovia, the Biochemist plant and the Mordovian State University on the establishment of the pharmaceutical research, production and engineering center "Antibiotics". The head of the Ministry of Health stressed that the center being created should become a domestic scientific and production base for the production of the latest generation of antibiotics.

The task is being completed successfully. To date, Biochemistry has developed and is producing two types of substances of the latest antibiotics, and by the end of the year the company will begin commercial production of four types of substances. The special significance of this achievement lies in the fact that antibiotics are produced here according to the principle of a full cycle – from the development of a molecule, the cultivation of a strain to the release of substances, and this is its uniqueness – this technology is not used in any of the Russian pharmaceutical enterprises.

Vladimir Volkov stressed that the implementation of this project is of great importance for Russia.: "The creation of the latest full-cycle antibiotics is our contribution to the country's drug safety. The project solves the tasks of import substitution and reducing dependence on foreign drug manufacturers."

But not so long ago, the fate of the plant hung in the balance: the company was falling apart, employees were working part-time, buildings were collapsing, equipment was hopelessly outdated. "We could have lost this plant," admits Vladimir Volkov, but two years ago a new owner came to the company, PROMOMED Management Company. Investments of up to 1.5 billion rubles and a clear plan for the reconstruction and development of Biochemik have significantly changed the situation. Currently, Biochemist produces more than a hundred names of medicines, more than 70 percent of which are included in the list of vital and essential medicines. There is no such form of medicines that would not be represented at the facilities of the enterprise. The production growth rate compared to the previous year was 162 percent.

A year and a half ago, the plant launched a new tablet production line. As part of the project, a cleanroom complex was built in full compliance with the requirements of the GMP standard, and modern technological equipment from leading manufacturers was installed.

Now the Biochemist plant is closely cooperating with the Mordovian State University. Graduates of the university work in the laboratory for the development of new active substances and antibiotics of a new generation. Vladimir Volkov confirmed that significant funds have been invested in the modernization of Ogarev Moscow State University in recent years. "We did this intentionally, realizing that by doing so we were laying the foundation for the further development of our university and ensuring its competitiveness," the leader of Mordovia emphasized.

Vasily Kuptsov, head of the laboratory for the development of new antibiotics, admitted that before coming to Saransk he had worked in many scientific centers, but was pleasantly surprised by the modern equipment of both Biochemik and the university laboratory, as well as the high level of training of graduates of Mordovian State University.

Vladimir Volkov also met with the Biochemist team. The Head of the republic stressed that this enterprise is the mainstay of stability in the region. Vladimir Dmitrievich raised many social issues, from helping Biochemist employees get housing to salary indexation and even the route of transport stopping at the plant.

The leader of the region noted that the release of new-generation domestic antibiotics and other successes of Biochemik were reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the head of the country conveyed gratitude to the staff of the oldest plant.
