Denis Manturov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government, highly appreciated the development of the biopharmaceutical company PROMOMED for the treatment of Duchenne myodystrophy (DMD). The presentation of the drug Gleventra (INN givinostat) took place within the framework of the III International forum BIOPROM-2026.  This is the first nonsteroidal drug for the treatment of DMD, the effectiveness of which does not depend on the type of mutation causing the disease. The drug was received registration certificate Ministry of Health of Russia.[1]

The peculiarity of the drug is its complex myoprotective effect: it simultaneously reduces inflammation and fibrosis, reduces fat replacement of muscle tissue and stimulates its regeneration.

According to the research results, the domestic drug has fully confirmed its equivalence (therapeutic interchangeability) with the original product. The Company plans to further explore the therapeutic possibilities of the drug in a series of clinical trials.

DMD is a rare hereditary disease characterized by a severe progressive course. The detection rate in Russia is one of the highest in the world. Officially registered There are about 2,000 patients, and this figure is growing with improved diagnostic methods. In DMD, due to various genetic mutations, a special protein, dystrophin, is completely absent or does not perform its functions, which causes damage to muscle fibers, chronic inflammation, fibrosis and replacement of muscle tissue. This process leads to increasing disability and dependence of the patient on outside help.

A system of care for patients with DMD is successfully operating in Russia. Patients get access to mutation-specific and gene-replacement drugs. However, existing drugs only affect a specific type of mutation and are not universal. A separate group of unmet needs consists of patients who are not suitable for available treatment options due to age, immunological or other medical limitations.

"With the advent of the first Russian gynostat, the medical community is receiving a fundamentally new, universal tool to combat DMD. Since the therapeutic effect of the drug does not depend on the specific type of mutation, the possibilities of its use in real practice are significantly expanding. For doctors, there is variability in making clinical decisions without the need for complex adjustments to the individual genetic profile of the patient. The integration of the product into the standards of care opens up new perspectives in maintaining muscle function, creating a sustainable potential for stabilizing the functional status and improving the quality of life of children with this serious disease."
