International treatment protocols for COVID-19 are now available in Russia thanks to a new etiotropic therapy drug from Promomed Group. Esperavir medicinal product®, containing molnupiravir, created by the company using a unique technology, received a registration certificate on February 03, 2022.

The new tool will replenish the arsenal of doctors who help patients on an outpatient basis, when it is important to defeat the virus as quickly as possible and prevent the development of complications. For the first time during the pandemic, doctors will have a choice of drugs for etiotropic therapy – favipiravir or molnupiravir. Both molecules act directly on the virus, suppressing its replication in different ways, thereby blocking the further spread of the virus in the body. The doctor will be able to select the therapy for a specific patient, taking into account the presence of concomitant diseases.

"The peculiarity of the new coronavirus infection is its transience. The virus leaves doctors almost no room for error. The merit of Russian scientists and developers is that a line of anti-covid drugs is now available for national healthcare. Areplivir (favipiravir) has a decent evidence base and extensive use experience, its effectiveness has been studied in hundreds of thousands of patients across the country.; Esperavir (molnupiravir) has just arrived in the country, but drugs based on this molecule are well studied. There are about ten clinical trials conducted in different countries, including the Promomed group in Russia, which you can safely rely on in your medical practice," commented Sergey Avdeev, Chief pulmonologist at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Esperavir® – the drug with the original technology has passed all stages of clinical testing. It was fully studied as part of a multicenter clinical trial conducted since December 2021 in sixteen medical institutions across the country, including Moscow, the Republic of Mordovia, Yaroslavl, Smolensk, Ryazan, Kirov, St. Petersburg, Ivanovo, Voronezh, and others.

The drug will be produced in the form of 200 and 400 mg capsules at the Biochemik plant (owned by Promomed Group of Companies) using full–cycle technology - from the production of active pharmaceutical substances to the finished dosage form.

"Esperavir is a new word in the treatment of COVID-19. Promomed is among the first domestic pharmaceutical companies. The company entered the war on the pandemic by offering the first antiviral drug in mid-2020. However, we believe it is extremely important to have more tools in our arsenal to combat the virus. And today we are bringing Esperavir to doctors and patients, a drug with unique antiviral targets that reduces the risks of deterioration and hospitalization. Drugs based on the same molecule are used in America, Japan, and Europe. The most modern therapy should be available to our citizens as early as possible," he said. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Promomed Group Peter Bely.

Esperavir® It suppresses the replication of RNA viruses and exerts its antiviral effect by introducing copying errors during viral RNA replication. The advantage of Esperavir therapy has been proven in clinical trials.® in terms of improving the clinical status of patients, increasing the rate of recovery, reducing the risk of complications and deterioration. Already on the 5th day of therapy, more than 80% of patients had complete elimination of the virus, and more than 40% of patients, including those with risk factors for developing a complicated course of COVID-19, achieved full recovery.
