Future Biochemist – the future of Biochemistry

For the second year now, the Future Biochemist project has been implemented on the basis of two Saransk schools, an initiative that allows students to develop and strengthen their interest in chemistry, and graduates to prepare for the Unified State Exam. The company, in turn, ensures its sustainable development in the future due to the influx of qualified employees in the long term.

About the Future Biochemist project

"Future Biochemist" is a unique project for the republic, which comprehensively supports talented and interested students. It includes classrooms equipped with everything necessary, from visual materials to laboratory equipment, in two schools in Saransk. The training takes place according to special programs, which were developed by subject teachers and teachers of the Ogarev Moscow State University. The plant's strongest specialists – chemists, developers, and production workers – have made their own adjustments to the programs, making them relevant to real production processes.

The teachers of the project were also carefully selected: not only professional qualities were important, but also interest, willingness to learn new things, and the desire to instill in students a love of science. Two teachers participating in the project were awarded at the national level in 2023: chemistry teacher Svetlana Makarevskaya was awarded the title of "Honored Teacher of the Republic of Mordovia", and mathematics teacher Tamara Naumova was awarded a diploma for her high pedagogical skills and significant contribution to education.

About the first results

More than 140 students of grades 8-11 from all educational institutions of Saransk became the first Future Biochemists in the 2022/23 academic year. In addition to additional specialized classes within the framework of the project, the students came on an excursion to the factory, attended master classes at the House of Scientific Collaboration, the Mira educational center. The plant's specialists held open lectures, talked about trends in the pharmaceutical industry and the technological capabilities of the enterprise.

32 people became prize-winners and winners of the All-Russian school Olympiads in chemistry and biology. The real exam for Future Biochemists was the competition of scientific projects organized by Promomed. It was in the preparation of their first scientific papers that the students were able to show what they had learned in a year. They analyzed promising areas in medicine, nature-saving technologies, the use and disposal of pharmaceutical products, and discussed the quality, effectiveness, and safety of medicines.

At the end of the first academic year, half of the 18 eleventh–graders who were Future Biochemists continued their studies at the Ogarev Moscow State University, the Mendeleev Moscow State Technical University, the pharmaceutical faculties of the Evdokimov Moscow State Medical University and the Lobachevsky National Research University.

About the personnel training system

Promomed is already laying the foundation for continuing education and training of qualified personnel for the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to the "Future Biochemist", these are:

 – Early career guidance and familiarization with the profession in game labs for preschoolers. In a playful way, children can try themselves as microbiologists, technologists, laboratory assistants, and specially designed educational materials and laboratory equipment help them in this.

– For young professionals of working professions, which production cannot do without, the Sphere Pharm educational and production cluster operates on the basis of the Saransk College of Services and Industrial Technologies within the framework of the Federal Project "Professionalism".

– In partnership with Ogarev Moscow State University, a series of student events "Pharma is love" has been implemented for the third year in a row. Students have the opportunity to communicate directly with Promomed's top management, listen to lectures by leading scientists and scientists, and get acquainted with the prospects and opportunities offered by a career in Biochemistry.

– The Basic Department of Chemistry and Technology of Biologically Active Substances trains bachelors and masters – young specialists with not only theoretical but also practical knowledge about pharmaceutical production.
