New plant "Biochemist" can annually produce 340 tons of active pharmaceutical substances

The new plant, opened in Saransk on the basis of JSC Biochemik (part of Promomed Group of Companies), can annually produce more than 340 tons of active pharmaceutical substances (APIs). This was announced by Peter Bely, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Promomed, during the opening ceremony of new pharmaceutical production facilities in a video conference with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Today we are opening one of the largest factories in the country for the production of active pharmaceutical substances. This is more than 340 tons of products per year, this is up to 150 names of high-tech substances, these are seven independent production lines, two of which are isolated specifically for the production of oncological molecules," he said.

Other sites will produce molecules for synthetic antibiotics, with the exception of beta-lactam, antiviral and antiretroviral drugs, and muscle relaxants, the Promomed press service said. Investments in the project amounted to more than 3.7 billion rubles. The construction of the new plant lasted two years. Most of the equipment is manufactured in Russia. The opening of the new production complex will create more than 120 jobs.

The launch of such an enterprise is a contribution to strengthening the country's drug sovereignty, Bely noted. "Our own synthesis of substances is a direct access to innovation, to the creation of original drugs. And here we will create medicines for diseases that have not been treated before," he stressed.
