The delegation of the Republic of Belarus appreciated the work of the Biochemist plant (part of the PROMOMED group), one of the industrial flagships of Mordovia. This year, the plant celebrates its anniversary: exactly 65 years ago, the first antibiotic, penicillin, began to be produced here. Currently, Biochemist is one of the leading biopharmaceutical industries in the country. How and how the plant lives these days, we will tell you in the story.

Biochemist is one of the few companies in Russia where a drug is developed, a substance is produced for it, then controlled and released to the market. The company promptly responds to the urgent needs of the industry, as well as implements the latest technologies to create innovative medicines. The guests appreciated the production capacity of the plant.

Elena Goncharova, Deputy General Director of Belfarmacia: "This is a modern pharmaceutical company. The workshops are certified. This is a very important requirement that allows us to consider the supply of very serious drugs, for example, oncological ones."

New facilities are being introduced here every year. The production of biological and chemical substances, antibiotics, and high-tech drugs for the treatment of socially significant diseases such as cancer, HIV infection, viral hepatitis, and others is developing. Now all the company's efforts are aimed at combating another disease of the 21st century — obesity.

Alexander Rudko, Chief Operating Officer of JSC Biochemist: "The release of the drugs Esperavir and Areplivir, which literally saved millions of lives of our compatriots during the pandemic, was very important. The development plans include the commissioning of new workshops. This is very important for ensuring the country's drug independence."

Today, Biochemika's production infrastructure includes 23 production lines and its own research and development center. For 65 years, medicines have been created here, which have gained recognition both at home and abroad. The plant performs another important task — import substitution. Today, the company employs more than 1,500 people.
