TASS, September 7. In Mordovia, they expect to create a federal biotechnology center to provide medicines for the country's food security, said the head of Mordovia, Artyom Zdunov, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.

"We plan to create a federal biotechnology center, because not all developments in drug preparation can be done in Russia yet. But we have a clear plan, we have agreed on it with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, with the Ministry of Science of the Russian Federation, I visited Valery Nikolaevich Falkov, and we will be included in the Priority 2030 and Advanced Engineering Schools programs this year. This will allow us to ensure the country's drug safety. Moreover, we have invested 16 billion [rubles] in pharmaceuticals in a short period of time, this is one of our main areas," said Zdunov.

According to him, pharmaceuticals is one of the key sectors of the Mordovian economy. Currently, the region produces substances for the manufacture of antibiotics and antiviral drugs. The Biochemist plant, which is part of the Promomed group of companies, is located in Saransk. The company operates in accordance with GMP standards.
