PROMOMED Company has prepared an effective drug for the fight against the COVID-19 coronavirus at its BIOCHEMIST JSC production site.

The company has made a breakthrough – its scientists and specialists have developed and recreated the production technology of favipiravir. The drug blocks the reproduction of the virus in the human cell, thereby preventing the spread of infection in the body.

"Favipiravir is effective against RNA viruses, which include the COVID-19 coronavirus," Dmitry Zemskov, Executive Director of Biochemik JSC, comments on the company's achievement.

This drug was developed in Japan to treat atypical fevers, in particular Ebola, as well as to combat complex forms of influenza. The special feature of the drug is that there are practically no resistant viruses to it. The drug remains effective throughout the epidemic, which allows it to be called a rescue drug. At the moment, extensive clinical trials of this drug are underway all over the world, but we can already rely on the data we receive from abroad. The drug has been widely used in the treatment of coronavirus infection COVID-19 in China. Experts note the high effectiveness of this drug, which significantly reduces the time spent by COVID-19 infection in the body to almost 4 days; ensures good preservation of lung tissue, which is confirmed by numerous studies, and has very few side effects."

PROMOMED, which is actively developing its own antiviral program, in accordance with Government Decree No. 441 dated 04/03/2020, appealed to the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation with a request to register favipiravir of its production. At the moment, the company is ready to release both the finished dosage form of the drug and the production of the substance. "We really hope that in June-July 2020 we will be able to provide all medical institutions in our country with this drug," says Dmitry Zemskov. "Our drug containing the active ingredient favipiravir will be called areplivir."
