The international competitiveness of domestic medicines and the importance of innovation were discussed in the State Duma by deputies and heads of leading pharmaceutical companies as part of an expert council chaired by Irina Filatova, a member of the State Duma Committee for the Protection of Competition.
The meeting's agenda included issues related to the levels of drug innovation and the use of modern technologies in drug production.
In addition, the meeting participants summarized the complex set of research and engineering technologies available in the country at this stage and came to the conclusion that the decisive development factor that can bring the pharmaceutical industry to a new level is the involvement of large pharmaceutical businesses.
One of the important issues was the impact of investments in innovative pharmaceuticals on the country's GDP in the medium and long term.
"For the development of innovations, the pharmaceutical industry needs more financing from the state budget, guarantees and risk insurance of investments made in enterprises are needed," Mikhail Avramenko, Director of Government Relations at Promomed Group, shared his opinion.
The resolution following the meeting reflects both a comprehensive assessment of the current state of the pharmaceutical industry, as well as proposals for its development and improvement of legislative regulation.
