The increasing prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents has become a recognized problem. As of 2025, about 25% of children in Russia are overweight or obese. WHO predicts a further aggravation of the problem among children and adolescents worldwide.

In this regard, PROMOMED is launching a placebo-controlled multicenter trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tirzetta®, a preservative-free drug for the treatment of obesity and overweight in adolescents 12 years and older. The study will involve 240 patients in 18 medical organizations from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Smolensk, Yekaterinburg, Voronezh, Novosibirsk and other Russian cities.

The drug, registered in 2025 for use in adults, has already shown its high clinical efficacy and safety. The next important step is to make it available for use by doctors in the adolescent age group. The advantage of the drug is that it simultaneously affects several mechanisms that regulate appetite, blood sugar levels and metabolism. The revolutionary nature of the molecule lies in its targeted effect directly on fat cells. Weight loss occurs precisely due to fat reserves while maximizing the preservation and even strengthening of the muscular corset. This is especially important for health and long-term maintenance of the result.

"Obesity has become an epidemic today: the number of overweight people is growing year after year, and teenagers are becoming a particularly vulnerable group. Improper nutrition of parents and mothers during pregnancy, physical inactivity and the abundance of available foods with high sugar content form a steady tendency to weight gain. The situation is complicated by the fact that therapeutic opportunities in this age group are still limited.

Currently, in our country, only liraglutide, the Enligria drug, which is also produced by our Company, is available for the treatment of adolescent patients. Although these opportunities are already wider in the world.

We understand that the evidence base is particularly important for pediatric drugs, which is why we decided to initiate our own study of tirzepatide in the form of the drug Tirzetta, a drug that does not contain preservatives, for adolescents.

In the long term, timely therapy will prevent the development of severe complications and improve the quality of life and psychological health of young patients," said Kira Zaslavskaya, Director of New Products at PROMOMED.

Currently, the study is at the stage of active patient recruitment. The research protocol provides a comprehensive personalized approach to each patient and includes diet therapy, correction of eating behavior and a gradual increase in physical activity. Throughout the entire period of participation, patients will receive qualified support from professional nutritionists and psychologists. An important task of the study is to form a stable motivation in adolescents to change their eating habits and lifestyle in order to preserve the achieved results.[1] Sources
