He noted that until recently, the lion's share of pharmaceutical substances was imported from abroad, and the opening of a new production facility makes a significant contribution to changing this situation.

"In addition, our own synthesis of substances is a direct access to innovation, to the creation of original drugs. Here we will create medicines for diseases that have not been treated before. For the country, the creation of pharmaceutical substances is now as important as space flights," Bely stressed.

In turn, the head of Mordovia Artyom Zdunov said that the republic "decided to engage in the pharmaceutical industry systematically, seriously and for a long time." "Three months ago, we opened a tablet production workshop, which is 1 billion tablets per year, and it is one of the leading workshops in the territory. Europe and our country. We are currently launching the production of substances for antibiotics and antiviral drugs. We will open 2 more workshops by the end of the year," the head of the region said.

Zdunov noted that the launch of the production of substances is preceded by a lot of work on the development of drugs. "Our manufacturers sometimes have to turn to foreign laboratories. We want to ensure our complete independence here. Therefore, we are working on the issue of creating a federal center in the republic that will allow the development of medicines," he told reporters after the ceremony.
