The biopharmaceutical company PROMOMED has officially launched the drug Tirzetta® (INN tirzepatide)[1] in Kazakhstan. The event took place within the framework of the forum "Transformation of approaches to metabolic health management: the power of two (GIP/GLP-1)", which brought together leading endocrinologists and experts in the field of metabolic disorders at the international level. The participants presented scientific reports on modern strategies for controlling metabolic health and the role of combined pharmacotherapy in clinical practice.
The forum participants emphasized the high relevance of the drug in the context of the growing burden on the healthcare system and the prevalence of metabolic diseases in the country. According to the data announced at the international forum, 16% of the population in Kazakhstan is obese, 43% of adults are overweight, and among children aged 6-9 this figure reaches 21%. About 65% of the country's health budget is allocated to the treatment of 15% of the population — people over 65 years of age. A significant part of this group is faced with diabetes mellitus, cancer
diseases and obesity. In this regard, experts regard the appearance of tirzepatide as a significant step in the development of endocrinology. As noted by Zhanai Akanov, Chief Consultant of Diabetes Center LLP, expert of the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes, Candidate of Medical Sciences, endocrinologist of the highest category, the current stage of development of endocrinology can be compared with the Renaissance. New drugs open up opportunities that were not available even 15-17 years ago. The registration of the country's first tirzepatide in record time, according to the speaker, reflects both the effectiveness of the manufacturer's management and an understanding of the high importance of this group of drugs for the healthcare system of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Laura Danyarova, Head of the Research Management Department, Head of the Department of Endocrinology at the Scientific Research Institute of Cardiology and Internal Diseases JSC (Almaty), Chief Freelance Endocrinologist at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasized in her speech the importance of introducing innovative solutions into everyday clinical practice and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to metabolic health management.
The mechanism of action of the drug has become one of the central topics of discussion. Fatima Dzgoeva, Head of the Department of Dietetic Care, Federal State Budgetary Institution "NMITS of Endocrinology named after Academician I. I. Dedova of the Russian Ministry of Health drew attention to the role of hormones of the gastrointestinal tract in regulating food intake. As part of her speech, she noted that the reduction in energy consumption achieved with the drug can be considered as one of the factors of longevity. Reducing even 20% of food intake has the potential to increase life expectancy.
The cardiological aspect of the drug was highlighted by Valery Ionin, MD, Head of the Atrial Fibrillation Center, Senior Researcher at the Research Institute of CVD of the Pavlov Moscow State Medical University.
An important advantage, in his opinion, is the early effect of tirzepatide on insulin resistance and increased insulin sensitivity, including in muscle tissue. In addition, the speaker noted that while taking the drug, triglyceride levels decrease by 30%, visceral fat decreases by 40%, and the level of highly sensitive C-reactive protein decreases by 35%, which indicates an effect on the inflammatory component.
The systemic nature of the action of tirzepatide was outlined by Tatiana Markova, MD, Professor of the Department of Endocrinology at the Russian University of Medicine of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. According to her, GLP-1 and GIP receptors are present in almost all organs and tissues — from the central nervous system to the intestines, liver, lungs, heart and joints. Among the new prospects, the potential of Tirzetta® in the prevention of aging by reducing the expansion of adipose tissue and realizing the anti-aging effect is highlighted.
During the scientific discussion, experts from Russia and Kazakhstan assessed the role of launching the first tirzepatide in Kazakhstan in terms of expanding therapeutic opportunities for comprehensive control of metabolic disorders and reducing long-term risks to public health. The forum confirmed the high interest of the professional community in the drug and its potential in modern endocrinological and cardiological practice.
