PROMOMED Company has received registration certificates for the drugs Velgia® and Velgia® Ivf with the active ingredient semaglutide. In the near future, these medicines will be available to Belarusian patients.

Semaglutide is an analog of the human hormone GLP-1. The hormone is produced by the body during meals and is responsible for the proper metabolism of carbohydrates, as well as participates in the regulation of appetite. It increases the feeling of fullness, so that a person does not feel hungry longer and reduces the number of calories consumed. Velgia^® — an injectable drug in the format of a pre-filled syringe pen. Velgia^® Ivf is available in a disposable auto-injector. The use of an autoinjector reduces the likelihood of errors in dosage, simplifies application, and the absence of preservatives in the composition increases the safety of treatment.[1]

The problem of overweight and obesity sounds extremely acute on the global agenda. According to WHO, more than 2.5 billion adults on Earth are overweight, and the number of obese people is approaching one billion. According to the World Obesity Atlas 2025, in 2025, about 58% of the adult population of the Republic of Belarus had a body mass index of ≥25 kg/^m2, indicating widespread overweight and obesity in the country.

Semaglutide—based drugs are the first and currently the only medicines for the treatment of obesity that have officially registered indications for reducing the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (BCC). This was confirmed in one of the largest studies, the results of which were published in The New England Journal of Medicine. Follow-up of patients for almost 40 months showed a 20% reduction in the risk of BNSS in the semaglutide group compared with placebo. Given the high association of metabolic disorders and cardiovascular risks, as well as the impact of excess weight on life expectancy, the availability of semaglutide therapy is crucial to improve the quality and prolong the life of patients.
