PROMOMED, the leading Russian innovative biopharmaceutical company, has once again become the general partner of the Student Award in the field of Biopharmaceuticals. The support of such initiatives aimed at the development of young scientists has become a good tradition for PROMOMED.
This year, the award received 30% more applications from students and postgraduates of the country's leading medical and pharmaceutical universities than a year earlier. The jury consisted of representatives of PROMOMED: Maria Porokhnya, Director of Intellectual Property, and Victoria Shcherbakova, Medical Director of the Company. He also took part in the evaluation of the works.Alexander Vishnevsky, Executive Director of ARTSELLENS. The experts evaluated the work in four areas relevant to modern applied science:
- innovative personalized solutions in biomedicine;
- development of high-tech medical chemistry and pharmaceutical technology;
- the use of bio- and pharmaceutical technologies for the treatment and improvement of the quality of life of patients with life-threatening diseases;
- the use of artificial intelligence and new research approaches in biopharmaceuticals.
The winners of the award were announced at the award ceremony, which took place as part of the VII annual IP Russia Awards (IPRA). The project of Kazan Federal University (KFU) was recognized as the best. The work is devoted to the development of a targeted antitumor drug and a new generation diagnostic tool based on monoclonal antibodies. The authors described the steps towards obtaining domestic antibodies, on the basis of which innovative medicines for the treatment of a number of oncological diseases can be developed in the future. Representatives of the university have already submitted an application for the invention to Rospatent.
"We thank the jury members who appreciated our project so much, and we wish our colleagues success, patience, and a great team. Thank you all!" the KFU representative said from the stage in his victory speech.
In addition to KFU, the teams of RNIMU named after N. I. Pirogov and RCTU named after D. I. reached the finals. Mendeleev presented the topics of the papers "Peptide neuroprotector — a new candidate for the treatment of ischemic stroke" and "Creation of a degassing unit for removing dissolved gas from viscous biopharmaceutical hydrogels". The jury of the competition noted the high level of case study and their applicability in real practice."This year it was incredibly interesting to read the applications from the students. I would like to note that the vast majority of the works were not student projects in the classical sense, but full-fledged business projects that are not ashamed to present to a pharmaceutical company for implementation in the industry. It is very important for students, postgraduates and young scientists to participate in such awards every year and not hesitate to submit their work for evaluation. It takes a lot of courage. As participants of the business award, we ourselves know that it is quite difficult to decide to submit our work to a sophisticated jury for evaluation. Therefore, we urge all students not to hesitate to participate every year, to look at how leading experts in the market react to them, what feedback they give about projects," she said.Maria Porokhnya.
The main award for the winners was not only a cash prize, but also a unique opportunity to present their projects to top management at the Company's head office. The authors of the best works will receive constructive, honest and careful feedback, and will learn about the real potential of their developments in terms of business and applicability in the pharmaceutical industry. Such interaction gives young scientists a unique chance to find themselves at the epicenter of industry decision-making and gain valuable guidance for further work.Holding the award as part of the IP Russia Awards highlights PROMMED's commitment to the protection and development of intellectual property as a key asset of the innovation economy. The company demonstrates to young scientists through its own experience the entire life cycle of an innovative product — from fundamental idea and patenting to commercialization.
