PROMOMED — Animal Health, a manufacturer of pharmaceutical-quality veterinary drugs, announces the launch of Rabectra® (INN fluralaner) on the Russian market. The new drug was developed by a domestic pharmaceutical company and is aimed at combating ectoparasites in dogs — ticks and fleas.
In our country, according to a VTsIOM 1 survey, 48% of Russians keep a dog, and another 42% plan to get a pet in the future. At the same time, according to ROMIR 2, the number of pet owners has increased by a third over the past seven years. This steady trend supports the high potential of the veterinary market. According to forecasts of analysts 3, by 2033 the global market of drugs with INN fluralaner will reach 2.5 billion dollars.
The original drug Bravecto®, developed by Merck Animal Health (MSD), was registered in the EU in 2013 and has since become one of the most sought-after products for the prevention and treatment of parasitic infections in pets. However, since 2022, there has been an obvious lack of supply of original or licensed products on the Russian market. This is due to the decisions of foreign manufacturers and suppliers to limit supplies to Russia.
The launch of a domestic drug into civil circulation became possible due to the Company's obtaining a license for the use of patented inventions related to the creation, circulation and use of veterinary drugs with INN fluralaner.
"The creation of Rabectra® is not only a response to the challenge of the times. This is a big victory for Russian developers. This is the first time such technology has been implemented in the Russian Federation. This is a new platform in our company, on the basis of which a number of user-friendly essential veterinary drugs will be created. The appearance of the first drug in this dosage form on the market is a step towards pharmaceutical sovereignty in veterinary medicine."
Rabectra® has passed all necessary preclinical and clinical trials, confirming bioequivalence to the original drug4. The drug will be available in the form of chewable tablets with taste appeal. It is designed for dogs of all breeds weighing from 2 kg and aged from 8 weeks. For the convenience of owners, Rabectra® is available in five dosages.
For the convenience of owners, Rabectra® is available in five dosages. Unlike products that require monthly treatment, Rabectra® provides protection for up to 12 weeks. This is what makes it unique: one tablet replaces three or four treatments, which means that prevention becomes easier, more reliable and more convenient. The drug belongs to the class of isoxazolines, modern compounds that selectively affect the nervous system of ectoparasites. It blocks key signals in the nervous system of fleas and ticks, causing their paralysis and death, and at the same time does not have a toxic effect on the dog's body due to differences in the structure of nerve cells in mammals and arthropods. The drug demonstrates high efficacy against the most dangerous and widespread types of parasites, including Ixodes ricinus (Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor reticulatus), fleas (Ctenocephalides felis), playing an important role not only in the prevention and treatment of infestations, but also in the prevention of vector-borne diseases carried by ticks and fleas. The latter include, for example, canine babesiosis, caused by protozoa of the genus Babesia and leading to the destruction of blood cells and death of animals.
"The limitation of original supplies and high prices for the original Bravecto® drug since 2022 have caused serious concern among both animal owners and veterinarians," says Svetlana Aleksandrovna Shemyakova, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor at the Department of Parasitology and Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise at the Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology. Scriabin. — The release of an effective Russian equivalent, Rabectra®, based on the original technology, will provide the market with a reliable and effective drug. This will help dog owners protect their pets as effectively as possible and give doctors back the opportunity to use modern antiparasitic agents for disease control and treatment."
It is expected that the drug will be delivered to veterinary pharmacies and clinics across the country as early as July 2026, during the tick season, when animal protection is especially important.
