REDUXIN IS THE NUMBER ONE TREATMENT FOR OBESITY IN RUSSIA

The real epidemic of the 21st century is obesity. In the Russian Federation, almost 30% of the population is obese. The incidence of obesity among men and women aged 25-64 years is 26.9% and 30.8%, respectively. Obesity is a health threat and is also a major risk factor for the development of chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Obesity is one of the leading causes of disability and mortality worldwide. Thus, weight loss seems to be an urgent healthcare task.

Drug therapy for obesity is indicated for patients who cannot achieve clinically significant weight loss on the background of non-drug treatment methods and / or at the stage of maintaining the achieved result. At the same time, in the case of moderate or severe obesity, if there is at least one complication associated with obesity, the appointment of pharmacotherapy is recommended immediately against the background of non-drug treatment methods. For the treatment of the disease in question, medicines of three types have been registered in Russia: orlistat, sibutramine, including a combination with metformin, and liraglutide.

Sibutramine is an inhibitor of the reverse neuronal uptake of serotonin and norepinephrine. Due to this mechanism of action, sibutramine affects various aspects of the energy balance: it enhances and prolongs the feeling of satiety, thereby reducing energy intake by reducing the amount of food consumed, and increases its consumption due to increased thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue. The maximum sales volume among the sibutramine INN is demonstrated by the drugs of the Reduxin brand (Reduxin® and Reduxin® Forte, Promomed Group of Companies).


By the end of 2022, the share of LP Reduxin® and Reduxin® Forte accounts for almost half (about 45% in rubles) of the total sales of the weight loss group ¹ in all market segments (Fig.). 

The drug Reduxin® has been registered in Russia since 2007. It is used in doses containing 10 and 15 mg of sibutramine in combination with microcrystalline cellulose. Proven therapeutic efficacy, a single daily dose and a patient-friendly dosage form (capsules) ensure the long-term leadership of the drug Reduxin® in the group of drugs for weight loss (Table). Studies involving about 140 thousand patients (the programs "SPRING" and "PrimaVera, "Aurora" and other studies), They confirm that while taking the drug, proper eating habits are formed, which contributes not only to effective weight loss, but also to the continued long-term maintenance of achieved results. In addition, with a comparable decrease in body weight, this drug provides a more pronounced dynamics of lipid disorders and adiponectin levels in comparison with the drug liraglutide.

The drug Reduxin Forte is a fixed combination of metformin (850 mg) and sibutramine (10 or 15 mg) in one tablet and has no analogues on the market of drugs for weight loss. The research results confirm that the use of the combined drug Reduxin® Forte in overweight and obese patients increases the effectiveness of therapy, allows not only to achieve a significant reduction in body weight, but also contributes to the normalization of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism and restores metabolic health in overweight patients. A wide range of additional pleiotropic effects of metformin, including cardioprotective properties, as well as the positive effect of weight loss on the condition of organs and tissues, helps to increase not only the effectiveness but also the safety of treatment with Reduxin Forte.
