Kira Zaslavskaya, Director of New Products at Promomed Group, spoke about a balanced strategy for the development of new drugs and the formation of the company's drug portfolio in her speech at the session "The R&D Market as an indicator of the state of the Russian pharmaceutical Industry: development Prospects".

According to Kira Zaslavskaya, developments should be based on an innovative approach in the creation of both original and non-original drugs. "Even if we are talking about creating generics, at the heart of our strategy is always the inclusion of a new added benefit. For example, improving security by modernizing technology," the speaker noted.

Over the past year, Promomed Group has registered several dozen medicines, including innovative ones. About a hundred more drugs are at various stages of research and development, or are already in the registration stage.

Kira Zaslavskaya She said: "If we continue to talk about our strategy, we are working very closely with various R&D centers and research organizations, and it is this close collaboration that will allow us to accelerate our development. When we talk about new drugs, these may include next in class* drugs. We see from the example of a number of statins and drugs from other groups that, with experience and knowledge of the problems that a pioneer molecule faces, it is possible to modify the chemical formula and obtain drugs with improved properties. On the other hand, modification of the technology may improve the tolerability or increase the effectiveness of already known drugs and combinations.

Our company is building its strategy on the balance of creating such improved generics and innovative medicines that will expand the export potential and, most importantly, ensure the drug safety of our country. This can be done in close cooperation with scientific organizations, the medical community and other market participants, including pharmaceutical companies."

The N.A. Semashko Russian Pharmaceutical Forum is the largest industry event. Every year, representatives of well-known pharmaceutical companies, regulators and experts gather at its site to discuss topical issues. This year, special attention was paid to the issues of working under sanctions, mechanisms to ensure the stability of the pharmaceutical market and support drug accessibility, anti-crisis measures and prospects for the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry.
