PROMOMED Company and the State Association of Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Enterprises of the Republic of Cuba, Biocubapharma, signed a memorandum of intent aimed at developing a partnership in the development and sale of multivalent therapeutic cancer vaccines. The signing ceremony took place within the framework of the 23rd meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cuban Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation (IGC) in St. Petersburg in the presence of the IGC Co-Chairs Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Oscar Perez-Oliva Fraga, Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Foreign Trade and foreign investments of the Republic of Cuba. The document was signed by Kira Zaslavskaya, Director of New Products at PROMOMED, and Alejandro Padron, Director of the Representative Office of the Biocubapharma Group in Russia.
Biocubapharma unites innovative companies in Cuba, created on the basis of research institutes with significant scientific, technical, intellectual and scientific-practical potential in the development of innovative drugs and advanced technologies. After conducting a comprehensive assessment of the prospects of a number of projects, PROMMED and the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM) of the Republic of Cuba agreed to jointly develop a multivalent therapeutic vaccine for the treatment of a wide range of oncological diseases.
Therapeutic cancer vaccines stimulate a person's own immune system to fight a malignant neoplasm, and exposure to several targets at once will solve the increasing problem of tumor resistance to existing therapies.
The signed document defines the principles and approaches to organizing joint activities for the development, conduct of preclinical and clinical trials of an innovative drug, as well as its registration and accessibility for healthcare systems in the world.
"The development of innovative drugs to combat malignant neoplasms is one of the focus areas for our Company," said Kira Zaslavskaya. — Solid tumors show marked resistance to standard therapies and a high level of adaptability, especially to monotherapy. In this regard, cooperation in the field of creating multi-target cancer vaccines is of strategic interest. Multi-target vaccines target several antigens at once. Due to the complex effect, it is possible to achieve high efficiency of therapy and reduce the risk of relapses. In fact, the technology lays the foundation for the formation of new standards of therapy aimed at reducing resistance and long-term remission."
