Promomed and NMIC of Endocrinology signed a cooperation agreement at SPIEF

St. PETERSBURG, June 4 – RIA Novosti. The Promomed biopharmaceutical company and the Academician I. I. Dedov National Medical Research Center for Endocrinology signed an agreement within the framework of SPIEF 2026 to conduct a large-scale research in the field of studying the biological age and metabolic health of Russians.

As explained by Peter Bely, founder and chairman of the Board of Directors of Promomed, a number of factors that lead to premature aging are already known. In particular, it has been proven that obesity and metabolic syndrome increase a person's biological age by 4 years. The study will be aimed at studying the biological age of Russians depending on body weight, assessing the impact of body weight indicators on the rate of biological aging in various age groups. Its purpose is to develop indicators that should be used in routine practice to diagnose accelerated aging against the background of risk factors and to collect a wide range of epidemiological data, including genetic markers of premature aging.

"We consider this research to be fundamentally important for Russian science and expect to obtain results on which it will be possible to base and form new standards and approaches to planning a long and healthy life. Metabolic health is a factor in increasing life expectancy. It is important for us that all the means for metabolic correction are 100% made in Russia. This is a matter of national drug safety, and from this point of view, our new research also promises to be fundamentally important."

In turn, Natalia Mokrysheva, Director of the National Research Medical Center of Endocrinology, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, pointed out that the data available to the Center indicate that one in three residents of the country is obese.

"Now we have effective drugs in our hands that can fight this disease. Conducting a large-scale epidemiological study of the biological age of Russians, combined with an analysis of the distribution of body weight and other metabolic parameters, will significantly expand the understanding of the mechanisms of healthy longevity. Such data will help identify factors that accelerate or slow down biological aging, develop approaches to the prevention of age-related diseases and formulate practical measures aimed at increasing the life expectancy and quality of life of the population," Mokrysheva emphasized.

At the same time, the results of the study will be of fundamental importance for understanding the relationship between metabolism, aging processes and human health, she noted.

The study will start in the summer of 2026. It will be held in the regions of Russia, taking into account the ethnic and demographic structure of the population. Scientists will evaluate Russians' commitment to a healthy lifestyle and the effectiveness of existing prevention programs. In addition, it is planned to study the relationship of obesity with metabolic and reproductive health. The work will result in the development of diagnostic parameters with the inclusion of indicators determining the actual biological age in routine clinical practice and the introduction of algorithms to reduce the socio-economic burden of metabolic diseases. The study will also form a scientific basis for the personalized use of pharmacotherapy, Promomed noted.
