As part of the business program of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the National Medical Research Center for Endocrinology named after Academician I. I. Dedov of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the biopharmaceutical company PROMOMED have agreed to conduct a large-scale study of the biological age and metabolic health of Russians. Natalia Mokrysheva, Director of the Center, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Peter Bely, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of PROMOMED, signed an Agreement of Intent to conduct this research.

A number of factors that lead to premature aging are already known. In particular, it has been proven that obesity and metabolic syndrome increase a person's biological age by 4 years. The study will be aimed at studying the biological age of Russians depending on body weight, assessing the impact of body weight indicators on the rate of biological aging in various age groups. The formation of indicators that should be used in routine practice to diagnose accelerated aging against the background of risk factors and the collection of a wide range of epidemiological data, including genetic markers of premature aging.

"Promomed and the Scientific Center of Endocrinology have been conducting joint research for more than 15 years, the results of which help improve the algorithms of medical care. We are now implementing the next step. Already in July, we are launching a new large-scale study, in which we will create a model for estimating biological age and develop personalized approaches to the treatment of metabolic diseases applicable to routine practice, which means an increase in the duration of an active and high-quality life."

Peter the White

Chairman of the Board of Directors of PROMOMED

The study starts in the summer of 2026. It will be held in the regions of Russia, taking into account the ethnic and demographic structure of the population. Scientists will evaluate Russians' commitment to a healthy lifestyle and the effectiveness of existing prevention programs. In addition, it is planned to study the relationship of obesity with metabolic and reproductive health. The result of a lot of work will be the development of diagnostic parameters with the inclusion of indicators that determine the real biological age in routine clinical practice and the introduction of algorithms to reduce the socio-economic burden of metabolic diseases. The study will also provide a scientific basis for the personalized use of pharmacotherapy.

"Epidemiological data and information available to our center indicate that one in three residents of the country is obese. Now we have effective drugs in our hands that can fight this disease. Conducting a large-scale epidemiological study of the biological age of Russians, combined with an analysis of the distribution of body weight and other metabolic parameters, will significantly expand the understanding of the mechanisms of healthy longevity. Such data will help identify factors that accelerate or slow down biological aging, develop approaches to the prevention of age-related diseases, and formulate practical measures aimed at increasing the length and quality of life of the population. At the same time, the results of the study will be of fundamental importance for understanding the relationship between metabolism, aging processes and human health," Natalia Mokrysheva emphasized.
