Medicines

Irinotecan-Promomed, which has become the eighth antitumor drug in the company's arsenal, is used in the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic colon and rectal cancer.

This type of cancer ranks first among malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and third in the overall structure of oncological diseases. This disease is most often found in patients over 50 years of age.

Thanks to the use of new highly effective anticancer drugs, including Irinotecan, great success has been achieved in the clinical practice of colorectal cancer therapy, as evidenced by the results of numerous clinical studies.

The mechanism of action of the drug is based on the inhibition of the enzyme topoisomerase I by Irinotecan, which unwinds the DNA supercoil before cell division – first, the enzyme divides the DNA into parts, then, straightening out, they fuse again. The active substance of Irinotecan binds to the topoisomerase+DNA complex, which prevents the replication of the tumor cell. Such therapy is especially dangerous for oncocytes* in the phase of preparation for division, therefore, if there are a majority of such cells in the tumor, then the result of therapy is higher. In addition, Irinotecan has immunosuppressive activity.

Forming a portfolio of drugs aimed at cancer therapy and bringing them to the market is an important strategic task for Promomed Group, as the company is focused on solving global medical problems, saving lives and significantly improving their quality.

Irinotecan-Promomed will be available in the form of a concentrate for the preparation of an infusion solution at a dosage of 20 mg/ml, which corresponds to standard application schemes.

Like most medicines produced by Promomed Group, this drug is included in the list of VED.

Oncocytes (tumor cells) are defective cells of a multicellular organism that are part of a benign or malignant tumor.
