PROMOMED Company announces the launch of an observational study that will evaluate the efficacy and safety of josamycin in children with respiratory infections in real clinical practice. The JASMINE observation program will be held at the Children's City Clinical Hospital No. 11. Yekaterinburg under the auspices of the Ural State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and will provide clinical data on the efficacy and safety of josamycin for use in pediatrics. The program continues a series of clinical trials of a drug based on josamycin. Earlier, the study of the effectiveness of this drug in the treatment of urogenital infections in routine outpatient practice began.

Acute respiratory infections (ARI) account for more than 90% of all infectious diseases reported in children in Russia. At the same time, the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections in children is 4-5 times higher than in adults, and preschool children remain the most vulnerable group, especially in the first 3 years of life[1]. It is at this age that the child has not yet fully developed an immune response, and the choice of safe and easy-to-use antibiotics is limited. To date, there is no children's dosage form of josamycin in suspension in Russia, although this antibiotic is in high demand in pediatric practice. The drug Vilpramycin SAR® is the only drug with INN josamycin in a dispersible form. The tablet easily dissolves in water and turns into a suspension. In this form, the drug is convenient to use in children over one year old, without resorting to injections or tablet crushing[2].

Josamycin is highly effective against both typical and atypical pathogens of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, which distinguishes it from beta-lactam antibiotics, traditionally used as first-line therapy. Currently, josamycin has one of the lowest levels of resistance in the population, which makes therapy particularly effective. It is important that the drug is also suitable for patients with intolerance to penicillin antibiotics.

"The start of the study is an important milestone in the work to provide children with modern, effective and safe methods of treating respiratory diseases. We offer a convenient and easy-to-use dosage form to the medical community, young patients and their parents. Thus, we are forming a new standard of pediatric therapy," said Oksana Pozdnyakova, Executive Director of PROMOMED.

The study is planned to include more than 400 patients aged 1 to 17 years with a diagnosis of acute respiratory infection. Data collection will last from June to December 2026, which will cover the season of increased incidence of respiratory infections among children.
