The new Skyvir drug, created by Promomed Group of Companies using a unique technology, received a registration certificate on April 21, 2022.
Doctors say that the biggest misconception today is to believe that the coronavirus is a thing of the past, and its new forms do not threaten people's lives.
According to WHO, on April 20, the total number of identified patients in the world in just one day was 505 thousand people, and 6,200 people died.
According to the general opinion of doctors, despite some lull in the dynamics of the incidence of COVID-19, and it seems that the pandemic in our country has receded, the medical community agrees that SARS-Cov-2 in one form or another will remain with us forever. And new, effective drugs should be created to combat it.
"The most common strain of stealth omicron has almost mixed symptoms with the usual acute respiratory viral infections, but the severity of complications and post-covid syndrome is currently the highest. Future pandemics may become even more dangerous, deltacron and other modifications of the virus are already actively predicting. All this dictates the need for doctors to have a wide range of etiotropic therapy drugs in their arsenal," said Kira Zaslavskaya, Director of New Products at Promomed Group.
And such a drug is considered to be Skyvira, a drug for treating patients on an outpatient basis that attacks completely different targets specific to the coronavirus. Although pharmacists emphasize that the effect of the drug does not depend on the type of coronavirus strain, both past and potential.
"Clinical studies have shown a pronounced antiviral effect of a new drug for the treatment of COVID-19, reducing the risk of disease progression to more severe forms and accelerating recovery. The targeted mechanism of action on the viral protease determines the success of treatment regardless of the SARS-CoV-2 strain. At the moment, Promomed's Skyvir drug can be indicated for outpatient treatment of mild or moderate coronavirus infection in adults," he noted Vladimir Chulanov, Chief Freelance Specialist in Infectious Diseases at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Deputy Director for Scientific Work and Innovative Development at the National Medical Research Center for Phthisiopulmonology and Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
Skyvira is a combination of two active ingredients, nirmatrelvir and ritonavir, which complement and support each other's effects. This makes it possible to completely block the reproduction of the virus inside the cell.
For the treatment of COVID-19 in adults, a daily dose of 600 mg of nirmatrelvir + 200 mg of ritonavir (1 tablet 2 times a day) with a duration of treatment of 5 days is indicated. Treatment (if prescribed by the attending physicians) is recommended to begin as early as possible after the diagnosis of a new coronavirus infection and/ or within 5 days after the first symptoms of the disease appear.
Since the coronavirus will not go away in the future, the new drug has a long life ahead of it and it will become as recognizable as many medicines for flu or colds.
