The program "Morning of Russia" devoted a TV story to the substance "Vancomycin" created at the plant.
It is no secret that today there are serious threats associated with antibiotic resistance, while Russian doctors often have outdated drugs in service. Currently, about 700,000 people are dying from resistant bacteria in the world, and this figure will only grow. According to scientists, the economic damage from infectious diseases in Russia in 2015 amounted to 549 billion rubles, most of which accounted for acute respiratory infections. In Russia, approximately one in four patients with pneumonia cannot be treated with antibiotics, despite the fact that the incidence of community-acquired pneumonia increased by 24% in the previous year alone. In addition, our country is characterized by a high prevalence of drug-resistant tuberculosis.
That is why the news that PJSC Biochemik has released the first domestic antibiotic substance (Vancomycin) and is preparing for the commercial release of three more causes increased public attention. The success of the plant was even reported to President Vladimir Putin.
The drug "Vancomycin" has been known since 1958, it has been produced abroad, constantly being updated and modified. In 2017, as part of the import substitution program at PJSC Biochemik, for the first time in Russia, it was possible to create a substance of this drug, significantly improving it.
In a TV story shown on the program "Morning of Russia" (Russia 1 Channel), Dmitry Zemskov, executive director of PJSC Biochemik, said that a strain had been created in a local laboratory that was 20 percent more effective than its Western counterpart. Vasily Kuptsov, Deputy Executive Director, who is directly involved in the synthesis of active biological substances, stressed that the created antibiotic is so strong that it can be used in cases where other drugs do not work - in the treatment of nosocomial and advanced infections, sepsis, extensive skin lesions, tuberculosis...
