PROMOMED conducts a clinical trial of an innovative drug against HIV infection

PROMOMED Company is conducting a Phase I clinical trial of a new original antiviral drug for the treatment of HIV infection with the participation of healthy volunteers. This will be the first experience of using the molecule in humans. The result of the work will be an assessment of the safety and tolerability of the drug with single and repeated use.

The new drug was developed by the PROMOMED R&D Center in cooperation with leading scientific centers of the Russian Federation. According to the mechanism of action, it belongs to HIV integrase inhibitors, one of the key areas of modern antiretroviral therapy. The molecule prevents the incorporation of the virus' genetic material into the DNA of human cells.

The World Health Organization estimates that by the end of 2024, there were about 40.8 million people living with HIV worldwide. Only about 31 million patients had access to the necessary antiretroviral therapy. In Russia, the number of HIV-infected people has reached 1.25 million.

"One of the key challenges of HIV therapy remains adherence to therapy or disciplined treatment. Not all patients are ready to take medications daily throughout their lives. That is why new approaches are becoming particularly important today, allowing to reduce the frequency of admission to several times a year. Such decisions can fundamentally change the quality of patients' lives and treatment outcomes. PROMOMED creates a line of innovative tablet and prolonged injection forms. This approach potentially expands therapeutic options and increases treatment commitment. Another important task that modern drugs are designed to solve is overcoming resistance to therapy."

Preclinical studies have demonstrated a high level of antiviral activity of the molecule, a favorable safety profile, and a low risk of developing resistance. The Phase I study is conducted in strict accordance with GCP requirements.

"We plan to continue clinical development and start researching the effectiveness of this drug in patients with HIV infection as early as the end of 2026.
