The innovative biopharmaceutical company PROMOMED, together with leading experts in the field of endocrinology, presented research results to the international community at the 13th International Conference on Endocrinology and Diabetes (Rome, Italy). Russian experts shared the possibilities of drug therapy of obesity in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and mental disorders.
Tatiana Markova, MD, Professor of the Department of Endocrinology at the Russian University of Medicine of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, during the scientific program, spoke about the results of clinical observations involving patients with end-stage renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. As part of the study, eight patients diagnosed with obesity were taking a medication based on Velgia® semaglutide Ivf, starting from a dosage of 0.25 mg. As a result, the drug made it possible to achieve a steady decrease in body weight by 0.5–1.0 kg per week, even in such a complex category of patients, while maintaining a favorable safety profile.
In clinical practice, this has already enabled one weight-loss patient to undergo a kidney transplant. The conclusions of the experts emphasize the significance of the results obtained, and also signal the need to expand the sample and conduct large randomized placebo-controlled trials that can definitively confirm the effectiveness and safety of the approach.
In addition, a new project was presented to study a drug based on tirzepatide, Tirzetta®— in patients with terminal CKD. The study started in November 2025, and a total of 60 patients will participate in it. To date, ten people have already started treatment, and the results of the first measurements confirm good tolerance and positive dynamics in weight loss.
The report attracted the attention of foreign expertsLouise Subbotina, Endocrinologist at the Endocrinology Department of the Moscow Clinical Research Center Hospital 52 of the Moscow Department of Health. The results of a study on the effect of anxiety levels on early outcomes and tolerability of semaglutide therapy in obese patients receiving psychiatric support were presented. More than 30 patients were taking Velgia® Ivf, and also received dietary recommendations and physiotherapy treatment. The participants were divided into groups with psychiatric support (19 people) and without it (18 people). The study confirmed that the efficacy and safety of the drug are comparable in patients with and without anxiety disorders, which expands the possibilities of its use in clinical practice.
The systematization of these data is consistent with the conclusions of international studies: body weight loss on semaglutide 2.4 mg reaches an average of 15-17%; on tirzepatide — 20-23%, accompanied by an improvement in cardiometabolic parameters. The Russian observations presented in Rome complement the global evidence base, demonstrating the effectiveness and safety of PROMOMED drugs not only in "normal" obesity, but also in patients on hemodialysis or in need of psychiatric care.
The company considers these results as an important step towards expanding indications and plans to further support multicenter studies aimed at improving the quality and life expectancy of people with severe metabolic disorders.
